SECTION CRITERIA:
26. Collaboration between Clubs is both permitted
& encouraged. Join up with another Club to broaden your dancer’s opportunity
to compete.
27. Class:- Novice
1 – must be a dancer who has never competed in a recognized
line dance competition.
28. Class:- Novice
2 – must be a dancer who has one (1) year or less line
dance competition experience (having not competed in more than three competitons).
29. Class:- Improver
– must be a dancer who has had up to three (3) years line dance competition
experience.
30. Class:- Rookie
– is any dancer who fulfills the above criteria ie; a Novice 1, Novice
2 or Improver.
31 .Class:- Mentor
– must be an experienced competitor or line dance Instructor.
32. An Instructor, regardless of competition
experience, may not compete as a Novice 1, Novice 2 or Improver.
33. For all freestyle Sections, including THE
COMPASS CUP – these routines may include at the entrants choice (but is
not compulsory) all forms of line dance eg, clogging, two-stepping, east
coast swing & line dance rock. There is a maximum time limit of five
(5) minutes for this section. No props are allowed & rule
10 still applies. Competitors are encouraged to be creative.
34. Class:- 12
years & Under – Children dancing in this section must
be accompanied & supervised by an adult at all times.
35. Class:- All
Stars section – this section is open to any competitor
with a disability that precludes them from dancing in any other section.
At least one (1) experienced dancer/competitor must accompany the “All
Star” entrants on the floor. Entrants in this section may dance as a duo,
trio or small group.
36. Open Sections are open to all competitors
regardless of experienced.
37. In Adult Child sections, the adult must
be 18 years or above and maybe of any experience.
DUO, TRIO’S AND GROUPS.
Rule 3.
Formation changes are permitted in all trio & group routines & may
commence from the beginning of the routine. The "vanilla" rule however
still applies to the dance sequence, as does rule 1.
Rule 1.
A line dance is deemed where all participants perform the same set
of steps in a repeated pattern, with all dancers moving on the same
foot, in the same direction, at the same time.

Provocative clothing is not permitted nor is the use of obscene or overly
suggestive body movements.

37. In the Mentor & Rookie trio &
small group sections, there may be only one (1) Mentor.
38. A small group must consist of a minimum
of four (4) dancers & a maximum of ten (10) dancers.
39. The Mentor & Rookie Large Group must
have a minimum of eleven (11) dancers with a maximum of two (2) Mentors
dancing in the group.
40. No joining of hands is permitted during
a duo, trio or group routine, all dancers must be moving on the same foot,
at the same time & in the same direction.. The exception to this is
the freestyle sections, including the COMPASS CUP.
41. No formation is allowed in any of the duo
sections with the exception of the freestyle section.
42. Formation changes are allowed but not compulsory
in the trio & group sections. Refer to
rule
3
43. Club shirts & club polo’s may be worn
in any section. This is not compulsory however all entrants should attempt
to dress in matching or similar clothing. Please note that outfits are
not part of the judging criteria.
44. It is etiquette that western style hats
are worn when competing, therefore hats are encouraged but not compulsory.
The aim of this competition is to encourage all line dancers to get on
the floor & have some fun in a supportive & non-intimidating environment.
The Event Directors would like to reinforce that the emphasis is on the
dance & footwork of the participants. Hat tricks & skirt work
will be judged as a part of the “degree of difficulty” criteria, however
the dancers feet will remain the focus at all times.
